UMC is affiliated with the University of Nevada School of Medicine and serves as the state's major clinical campus. Teaching hospitals offer the latest in medical knowledge and treatment. Under the guidance of the school’s faculty, resident physicians assist in treating patients. This means that instead of one doctor, you will have several doctors reviewing your case and determining the best course of treatment.

As the state’s only public medical school, the University of Nevada School of Medicine has been a leader in health care, medical education and research in Nevada since 1969. The School of Medicine includes 16 clinical departments including family medicine, pediatrics, OB/GYN, internal medicine, surgery and psychiatry and behavioral sciences, as well as five nationally recognized departments in basic science, including microbiology and biomedical engineering.

The more than 185 doctors of University Health System, the school’s clinical practice, offer care in more than 40 specialties in Las Vegas and Reno. The school is committed to a best practices approach to medicine and is dedicated to exceptional health care for Nevada.

The University of Nevada School of Medicine offers residency training programs in dental, emergency medicine, family medicine, internal medicine, OB/GYN, pediatrics, psychiatry and surgery and fellowship programs in obstetrics, sports medicine, acute care, critical care, hand and microsurgery, orthopedic trauma and trauma. Much of the training in many of these programs take place at UMC.
