Gullian-Barre syndrome

Description:
Form of peripheral polyneuritis marked by pain, weakness, and sometimes paralysis of the limbs that may spread to the trunk of the body. The cause is unknown; it usually develops 1-3 weeks after a viral infection or immunization. Also called infectious polyneuritis.

Symptoms:
In most cases symptoms resolve within a few weeks or months.

Treatment:
Treatment is supportive, possibly including mechanical ventilation.
