University Medical Center has a free adolescent smoking cessation program which is open to teens between the ages of 12 and 19. This is a three-week program that combines lectures and group discussions in an effort to help teens quit smoking. A counselor conducts individual consultation every Wednesday afternoon from 3:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m.
The consultation and group sessions are composed of an assessment of the smoker, discussion of the cycle of addiction, tapering, trigger management, cognitive restructuring, hypnotherapy and a support system.
For more information, contact University Medical Center’s Chest Pain Clinic and ask for Dr. Elizabeth Fildes at (702) 383-3953 or visit the Nevada Tobacco Users Website .
