UMC's Kidney Transplant Program Receives Recertification

The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services, known as CMS, has awarded full recertification to UMC’s Kidney Transplant Program. CMS is the accrediting body that sets the standard for excellence in transplant care.
CMS inspected and reviewed UMC’s Transplant Program and found it to be completely in compliance with the national standards by providing the highest quality of care. UMC’s Transplant Program is now fully recertified for the three years.
“This is an incredible accomplishment for UMC and our transplant center. With this recertification, UMC can continue providing our patients with the finest transplant care,” UMC’s Director of Medical and Surgical Services Fina Wardle said.
Recertification by CMS is based on UMC’s clinical experience and outcomes.
“We have made many positive additions to our transplant center and we’re proud of where it is today. We have a highly accomplished transplant staff and a phenomenal team in place serving as Nevada’s only transplant center,” UMC CEO Kathy Silver said. “I thank the surgeons from the University of Utah for helping us get to this point, and look forward to the future of the program as we recruit multi-organ transplant surgeons to take the program to even greater success.”
Through UMC’s Transplant Program, Southern Nevada patients can stay close to home for their care.
“This program is a lifeline to people in our community waiting for a transplant. Through UMC’s Transplant Program, patients can receive world class care right here at home.” Clark County Commissioner Lawrence Weekly said. “This is one more reason UMC is such a valuable asset to our community.”
About 200 people are currently on the waiting list in Nevada for a kidney transplant. This year, UMC will do close to 60 kidney transplants.
