UMC Surgeons Among the First in Southern Nevada to Perform Single Incision Laparoscopic Surgery

HERE’S A LOOK AT SOME EXTRAORDINARY NEWS HAPPENING AROUND UMC

UMC Surgeons Among the First in Southern Nevada to Perform Single Incision Laparoscopic Surgery

Imagine having a major surgery with less pain, quicker recovery time with virtually no scaring. UMC Surgeons Dr. James Lau and Dr. Shawn Tsuda are pioneering the way toward a future of single incision laparoscopic surgery. With the first patient to undergo such a procedure, our surgeons were able to remove the patient’s gallbladder through her belly button, leaving no visible scar at all. It’s just another advance in medicine being made right here, at Nevada’s premier teaching hospital, UMC. Interviews can be scheduled with our surgeons.

2009 Flu Season Different From the Rest

Our UMC Quick Care Physicians say this year’s flu season is much different than the rest. The flu season started later this time around, and flu symptoms just don’t seem to go away, with the coughing, sneezing, aches and pains lasting longer than usual. Our Quick Care Physicians have some tips on recovering from this year’s flu.

Child Life Dolls Teach Our Little Patients About Surgery

Surgery can be very scary for our little patients. Our Child Life Specialists at UMC spend extra special time with our youngest patients to explain some of the procedures they are going through. Using special dolls, our experts can show our pediatric patients why their tummy hurts and how a doctor can fix it, or show them how a broken bone will heal after surgery. You’ll be amazed at the big lessons this little doll can teach.
