Nevada Cancer Institute to provide oncology services at University Medical Center

Clark County Board of County Commissioners approves Nevada Cancer Institute to provide oncology services at University Medical Center

Las Vegas, November 20, 2007 - The Clark County Board of County Commissioners today approved the Nevada Cancer Institute (NVCI) contract to provide the oncology services at University Medical Center (UMC).

The contract with Clark County is for NVCI to provide professional oncology and hematology services at University Medical Center effective January 1, 2008. The contract is for three years with an automatic renewal for an additional two years.

“Nevada Cancer Institute is pleased to have been approved by the Board of County Commissioners to provide the oncology services at University Medical Center,” said Heather Murren, NVCI chairman and chief executive officer. “The Institute has been proud to participate in the rigorous review process and looks forward to providing oncology care to residents of Las Vegas who are patients at UMC.”

UMC has the only Teaching Hospital Cancer Program as designated by the American College of Surgeons Commission on Cancer. The hospital has maintained this designation since 1983.

"We are extremely pleased that the Nevada Cancer Institute will be providing oncology services for our patients,” said Kathy Silver, UMC interim chief executive officer. “Our patients will benefit from the collaboration as will the entire community.”

NVCI will work with UMC administrators and current service providers to work toward a seamless transition of the delivery of care.

“We look forward to working collaboratively with the existing UMC oncology care team to provide research-linked care, including the latest regimens of care, and expanding access to clinical trials,” said Nicolas Vogelzang MD, NVCI director.
