McCarran Quick Care Closing Early

Two Nearby Quick Cares Ensure Continued Access to Healthcare

The McCarran Quick Care will close by Aug. 20 instead of Oct. 31, officials announced today.

Prospective patients of this Quick Care should instead plan to go to the Sunset or Boulder Quick Cares, both of which are a 10-minute drive from the McCarran location. The Sunset Quick Care is at 525 Marks St., Henderson. The Boulder Quick Care is at 5412 Boulder Highway, Las Vegas.

“Closing this Quick Care earlier than expected allows us to save money while having a minimal impact on citizens,” UMC interim-CEO Kathy Silver said. “Having both the Sunset and Boulder Quick Cares nearby means people in that area still have easy access to healthcare.”

The McCarran Quick Care opened in October 1994 and has seen a decrease in patient visits in recent years. For example, in 2005 the McCarran Quick Care saw 28,042 patients, and 25,336 patients visited the facility in 2006.

The planned expansion of McCarran International Airport had the McCarran Quick Care closing by Oct. 31. However, the effects of nearby construction prompted hospital officials to recommend the McCarran Quick Care close earlier.

Closing the McCarran Quick Care will save approximately $1.7 million annually, or an average of $141,000 per month. This estimate is based on past performance.

The McCarran Quick Care was also where Metro police officers and county firefighters had their required physical examinations. Those exams will be moved to the Enterprise Quick Care.

A complete evaluation of UMC’s Quick Cares is part of the ongoing review of UMC’s operations. As part of this effort there have been numerous focus groups and two public forums are being held at the Clark County Government Center at 500 S. Grand Central Pkwy. in downtown Las Vegas. The first forum will be from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. on July 16, and the second forum will be from 10 a.m. to noon July 21. County and hospital officials will be available during those hours to answer questions and take suggestions regarding the future of UMC.
