American College of Surgeons approves UMC Cancer Center
The American College of Surgeons Commission on Cancer (CoC) continued its approval of University Medical Center Cancer Center (UMC) as a certified cancer treatment. UMC maintains this designation since 1983.
UMC provides community outreach programs such as cancer prevention clinics at low or no-cost. The UMC oncology staff participates in national clinical trials and research programs to help speed the delivery of high-quality care to local patients. Also staff attends national educational meetings to aggressively complete cancer analyses for the cancer registry and databases every year.
“UMC has a dedicated staff that is specifically trained to provide individualized treatment to every patient meeting their physical, emotional, and spiritual needs,” said Fina Wardle, R.N., director of medical and surgical services at UMC. “Our staff works very hard to compile the best data and perform many outreach activities in order to provide the best oncology care in Las Vegas.”
The CoC is dedicated to improving survival and quality of life for cancer patients and monitoring comprehensive quality care. Every CoC-approved cancer program must qualify for basic service categories including: Diagnostic, Treatment, Other Clinical Opportunities, Rehabilitation, Support, and Prevention and Early Detection. These services must be provided on-site at the facility, by referral, or coordinated with other facilities or local agencies.
