Free car seat checks are now available Monday through Friday at

UMC’s Family Resource Center now offers free car seat checks by appointment Monday through Friday after hiring Shelly Cochran as a full-time car seat technician.

During the check, Cochran will examine how your child’s car seat has been installed and will make adjustments as necessary. She also makes recommendations about what type of restraint is right for your child according to age, height and weight, and whether or not older children are ready to use a seat belt.

“We are pleased that we are now able to offer this service everyday, rather than once a week,” said Lisa Pacheco, RN, clinical manager for UMC’s Family Resource Center. “Most people don’t know that 80 percent of cars seats are installed incorrectly, and taking the time to have a car seat checked can save your child’s life.”

Appointments for a free car seat check are available Monday through Friday and can be made by calling 383-2229. UMC’s Family Resource Center is located at 1120 Shadow Lane, across the street from UMC’s main campus.
