March of Dimes Honors UMC nurses
The March of Dimes honored eight University Medical Center (UMC) nurses for their service and dedication to nursing during the 22nd Annual March of Dimes Nurse of the Year Awards ceremony held on Nov. 4.
The following nurses were recognized this year:
- Marjaana Krieger, Nurse Practitioner, Oncology – Winner, Advanced Practice Category
- Mary Brann, Nursing Supervisor – Winner, Nursing Administration Category
- Kim Kandt, Performance Improvement – Winner, Quality & Case Management Category
- Malou Escalona, PACU Charge Nurse – Winner, Charge Nurse Medical-Surgical Category
- Mariam Becker, Administrative Assistant, Nursing Administration – Winner Nurses Choice Award
- Mary Jo Conte, Staff Nurse Oncology – Runner-up, Home Health/Oncology Category
- John Recicar, Trauma Program Manager – Runner-up, Emergency Category
- Gina Corrales, Staff Nurse, Lied Ambulatory Care – Runner-up Pediatrics Category
Recipients were awarded based on their knowledge, skill and commitment to nursing and patient care. Nurses were nominated by their peers, co-workers and physician staff. This year, UMC had 98 nominees in many different categories.
“UMC has an incredible nursing staff made up of some of the most dedicated, compassionate and skilled nurses that I have ever worked with. Every person nominated for this award was truly deserving,” said Vicki Huber, R.N., chief nursing officer at UMC.
