UMC Named Among the Best Places to Work in Southern Nevada

University Medical Center (UMC) has been named to the 2006 list of the best places to work in the government category by the Southern Nevada Human Resources Association (SNHRA).

“We are proud to be named one of the best places to work in Southern Nevada,” said Lacy Thomas, UMC chief executive officer. “UMC has implemented several initiatives to benefit our employees, including the creation of an employee retention strategy committee, hiring and retention bonuses, mentoring programs, diversity sensitivity training and others. We know that our best resource is our employees, and we want to do everything we can to ensure UMC remains a top place to work.”

According to the SNHRA, candidates were judged based on recruitment and retention, performance management, employee benefits, work-life balance, employee communications and morale, employee relations and inclusiveness and diversity.

Judges commended UMC for its strong recruitment program that was developed in response to the shortage of health care workers, as well as UMC’s commitment to diversity through its number of diversity programs. This is the first time UMC has been named to the list.
