Local Surgeon Appointed Chairperson of American College of Surgeons

University Medical Center and the University of Nevada School of Medicine are pleased to announce the appointment of Dr. John Fildes as the national chairperson of the American College of Surgeons (ACS) Committee on Trauma.

The ACS Committee on Trauma is dedicated to improving all phases of trauma care including working with emergency medical services personnel providing on-scene treatment and transportation of injured people in addition to working with hospital personnel and the teaching and practice of trauma surgery.

Fildes, director of the level one Trauma Center at UMC, is a professor of surgery at the University of Nevada School of Medicine. He oversees the trauma and critical care fellowship programs.

“It’s an honor to be appointed Chair of the Committee on Trauma,” said Dr. Fildes. “It’s an honor to represent UMC, the School of Medicine, and most importantly, the residents of Southern Nevada.”

Fildes will begin his two-year term in March 2006.
