March of Dimes Honors UMC Nurses
Each year, the March of Dimes honors hundreds of local nurses for their service and dedication to nursing. Eight nurses at University Medical Center received awards at the 21st Annual March of Dimes Nurse of the Year Awards ceremony held Nov. 4.
- Kim Voss, R.N., Performance Improvement – Winner, Distinguished Nurse
- Lisa Pacheco, R.N., Family Resource Center – Winner, Community Nursing
- Jovi Remitio, R.N., Rancho Rehabilitation – Winner, Rehabilitation/Long-term Nursing
- Doris Cowell, R.N., Oncology – Winner, Hospice/Oncology
- Norma Goode, R.N., Family Resource Center – Runner-up, Ambulatory Nursing
- Ron Pimental, R.N., Surgical Services – Runner-up, Nursing Management
- Kathy Haugh, R.N., 4 South – Runner-up, General Medical/Surgical
- Sammy Alcedo, R.N., Case Management – Runner-up, Case Management
- Elizabeth Erb-Ryan, R.N., Trauma ICU –Runner-up, Community Nursing
Awards are based on knowledge, skill and a commitment to nursing and patient care. Nurses are nominated by their peers, co-workers and physician staff. UMC had 80 nominees in 22 different categories.
“Our nursing staff is an elite group of compassionate, dedicated and skilled nurses who believe in doing the best in patient care each and every day,” said Vicki Huber, R.N., Chief Nursing Officer at UMC.
