UMC Hosts Blood Drive In Effort to Ease Shortage
Southern Nevada in Critical Need of Type O Blood
Blood supply levels in Southern Nevada are reaching critical lows. In an effort to ease the shortage, University Medical Center (UMC) is hosting a blood drive Tuesday, Aug. 30 from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. The event will be held in the rotunda next to the Ambulatory Surgery Center located off West Charleston Boulevard and is open to the public.
UMC has not had to cancel any elective surgeries due to the blood shortage, however, hospital officials always encourage people to donate blood.
“There is always a need for blood in this community,” says Suzanne Poisson, UMC volunteer services director and coordinator of the blood drive at the hospital. “UMC holds blood drives regularly to ensure there is an adequate supply of blood. As healthcare professionals, we know that blood can mean the difference between life and death for a person.”
For more information on the August 30 blood drive, please call Suzanne Poisson at 383-2388.
