FUNDRAISING EFFORT UNDERWAY FOR A NEW LION'S BURN CARE CENTER

In 1968, when the burn care floor first opened, the unit was able to meet the needs of the Clark County community. However, the tremendous amount of growth in Southern Nevada has, in turn, meant more patients who need the specialized services this facility offers. This demand for a larger facility has spurred UMC to look towards building a new Lion’s Burn Care Center.

The need for University Medical Center to have a larger Lion’s Burn Care Center is based on a number of reasons, including the fact that UMC is the only hospital in a 10,000 square-mile radius to have a burn care facility. As the community’s hospital, our staff is committed to providing the highest quality of care available.

This need is further emphasized when looking at our population growth. In a study released in March 2001, the state’s demographer projects that Clark County’s population will hit the 2 million mark by 2010. By the year 2018, they believe that Clark County will have nearly 2.7 million people, up 125% from the 1997 population of 1.2 million.

The Lion’s Burn Care Outpatient Clinic is seeing 45% more patients than it did when it first opened. As the population in Las Vegas continues to grow, so does the number of people who need access to the burn care unit.
