Asked Questions
Can my child’s brothers and sisters visit? At UMC Children’s Center, we recognize the value of family-centered care. Siblings who are in good health are allowed to visit between 11 a.m. and 8 p.m. Children who are in isolation may have more strict visitation guidelines.
Can I stay with my child 24 hours a day? Children admitted to the Pediatric unit may have one parent stay at the bedside at all times. Children admitted to the PICU can have a parent with them except when the unit closes to visitors between 9 a.m. and noon.
Why can’t my child have latex balloons while at the hospital? The safety of your child is our first concern at UMC’s Children’s Center. Since latex balloons are a high risk for choking hazard, as well as a high risk for latex allergy, we ask that balloons brought to children in our care be Mylar-type only.
What should I bring with my child when he or she is admitted? UMC Children’s Center has a Pediatric playroom with Nintendo64, videos, puzzles, games, arts and crafts, and more. This is all part of our wonderful Child Life program, focusing on creating a child-friendly environment for our patients. Bringing a loved blanket, stuffed animal, favorite pillow or pajamas can help children have some comfort from home. Meals are provided for patients, as are most toiletries.
Will my child have to share a room? UMC’s Children’s Center has both double and single occupancy rooms. Single occupancy rooms are generally reserved for patients who need to be in isolation for medical reasons.
