Emergency Medicine Family Practice Internal Medicine Obstetrics/Gynecology Pediatrics Surgery

After receiving approval from the Accreditation Council on Graduate Medical Education in 1996, the University of Nevada School of Medicine Department of Pediatrics assembled its first residency class. With four physicians in the PL1 class and two each in the PL2 and PL3 classes, resident physicians began training on July 1. The program continues to expand, including more than 40 resident physicians.

Full-time faculty includes pediatricians, as well as, specialists in adolescent medicine, allergy, developmental pediatrics, endocrinology, genetics and hematology/oncology.

The curriculum is based on a philosophy that recognizes the need for general pediatricians in Las Vegas and throughout the country. The residency program is designed to train physicians in general pediatrics with the understanding that many of the program’s graduates will practice primary care. For graduates who would like to pursue subspecialty or fellowship training or a career in academia, the training program offers a solid base of training in general pediatrics that serves as an excellent foundation.

Pediatric faculty train resident physicians at several clinic sites including UMC, Sunrise Hospital and Medical Center and Community Health Centers of Southern Nevada. A variety of clinical settings allow resident physicans a broader experience in pediatrics while working with diverse populations.
