University Medical Center employs a licensed professional Audiologist specializing in the identification and prevention of hearing disorders for patients ranging from neonatal to geriatrics. Audiology services include testing and hearing aid assessment and distribution.

HEARING DISORDERS

Conductive: Occur in the outer or middle ear. Speech and other sounds may be heard faintly, often muffled.

Sensorineural: Occur in the inner ear or auditory nerve and cause one to hear speech sounds faintly and sometime in a distorted way; words may sound slurred or lacking in clarity.

Mixed: Are a comination of conductive and sensorineural losses.
