UMC's Pathology department, accredited by the College of American Pathologists and the Clinical Laboratory Improvement Act, provides 24-hour support to all hospital services and programs.

By examining tissue and fluid samples, pathologists are able to assist the primary physician in determining a diagnosis or treatment plan.

When you schedule your test, you will be given preparation instructions. It is essential that you follow proper preparation procedures for any lab tests ordered to ensure accuracy.

If fasting is required, you should not eat, drink (except water), smoke, or chew for at least 12 to 14 hours prior to the test.

You should continue to take any medication unless your doctor says otherwise.
